Ingredients: Red bush (Aspalathus linearis)

Brewing Instructions:
Use one bag per cup. 200ml of boiled water and leaves to brew for 3–5 minutes, depending on strength. Enjoy as is or add milk, sugar, honey, lemon, or ginger to taste. Delicious hot or as a refreshing iced drink.

Perfect For: The whole family. Morning, afternoon, and evening after meal, or morning and evening.

Health Benefits:

Aspalathus linearis, commonly known as red bush, shows significant medicinal potential for managing type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure (hypertension) primarily due to its unique antioxidant profile. Native to South Africa, this plant contains powerful polyphenols, most notably a rare flavonoid called aspalathin that actively targets metabolic and cardiovascular pathways.

Improving Insulin Sensitivity: The compound aspalathin helps suppress fasting blood glucose levels and reverses insulin resistance. It encourages glucose uptake in skeletal muscle tissues by activating metabolic pathways like AMPK.

Protecting Pancreatic Cells: Extracts shield pancreatic β-cells from oxidative stress and dysfunction, allowing the pancreas to maintain healthier insulin secretion.

Enzyme Inhibition: Red bush extracts can inhibit α-glucosidase, an enzyme responsible for breaking down dietary carbohydrates into glucose, thereby reducing sudden post-meal blood sugar spikes.

ACE Inhibition: Red bush contains antioxidants that have been shown to inhibit the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE). Because ACE causes blood vessels to constrict and raise pressure, slowing this enzyme down helps vessels relax and dilate.

Cardio Protection: According to laboratory studies, its antioxidant activity reduces vascular inflammation and protects heart tissue from oxidative stress.

Cholesterol Modulation: While not directly lowering blood pressure, chronic rooibos consumption helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, which reduces the overall risk of atherosclerosis and hypertensive complications.
